One of our first unit studies was forest animals. The habitat, what they ate, identifying tracks, etc. On 65 acres on top of a small mountain we've seen deer, bear, copperheads, black snakes, turkeys, bobcats, coyote, fox, owls, opossum and raccoon We studied what to do and what not to do if we came upon a bear. Hard to put into practice once surprised by one tho. I knew not to run, but my legs didn't listen to me. Thankfully it did not chase me. We often went hiking/trail blazing and rested for a picnic. We also have a pond where we spotted snapping turtles, tadpoles, frogs ....even beavers !
